Pass Catching Report
Wilson was undoubtedly the #1 target for the National Champion Wolverines in ‘23 despite the fact that the offense was centered around the run game. He doubled his catch total from the ‘22 season finishing with 48 catches. 12 of them went for touchdowns which adds up to a 25% TD rate for Wilson. His ability after the catch is his most attractive quality as a receiver. He uses his elite speed and shiftiness to create separation at the intermediate and deep parts of the field (16.43 YPR).
Where Does He Fall Short?
He is not quite a polished route runner and will force his way through his routes with his speed in order to get open. He has one speed all the time and can easily be anticipated by defenders. He has little effect on the short-distance passing game lacking the ability to catch-and-go underneath. He’s obviously not as tall as other receivers which makes contested catches an issue as well. Relying on your speed can get you places but only so far at times.
