2023 Outlook
The Ravens gave Lamar Jackson a contract that they are both happy with. They signed WR Odell Beckham Jr to a one-year deal and drafted WR Zay Flowers. On paper this is the “weapons” that Lamar had requested to pair with Rashod Bateman and TE Mark Andrews. They also let running QB offensive coordinator Greg Romans go and brought in Todd Monken who is well known for his pass heavy attack.
This offense is a complete mystery. Can Lamar run the Monken offense? Will the offense throw enough to appease all the weapons? Will Odell get the ball enough to not be a distraction? Can Lamar stay on the field? This team has always been a good defense, heavy run game, and throw over the middle attack.
Monken will try to stretch out the field but will his offense design translate to this team and the players.
Assuming the passing game takes a step forward, does that help or hurt the running game. Hopefully it opens run lanes for J. K. Dobbins who is in a contract season. They still have Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill at RB but this feels like a Dobbins kind of year.
At Tight End, they have Mark Andrews and Isiah Likely. I have heard that this offense may utilize a two TE set, but either way you should be able to count on Mark Andrews over the middle to get his.
Year after year this is a Top 5 defense, and this organization is built around that. I don’t expect anything less this season. This team will lean heavily on the defense to get the job done.
This is playoff team if all the “what ifs” come through. I mean it was a playoff team last season and Lamar missed several weeks. If everyone is healthy, look for this team to make a push into the playoffs and be tough opponent for the entire AFC.
