2023 Outlook
The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a mostly successful season with their record of 13-4 being their best record since 2017 where they lost in the Conference Championship. Their season ended on a sour note where they lost their home playoff game to the New York Giants. Moving into 2023, their offense has the chance to remain high scoring which kept them in games last year. Long time receiver Adam Thielen has moved on to the Carolina Panthers and in steps 23rd overall pick Jordan Addison who provides an excellent compliment to All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson. It appears as if they are okay with moving on from the long-time rusher and using Alexander Mattison as their main running back with the recent release of long time rusher Dalvin Cook. With a solid offensive line up front, they are poised to continue their offensive dominance.
Their defense, however, was a massive liability and only lost more key pieces. The Vikings lost linebacker Eric Kendricks, edge rusher Za’Darius Smith, defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson and cornerback Patrick Peterson in free agency all of whom have been formidable starters for years. They will attempt to fill their defensive playmaker void with new additions Marcus Davenport, Byron Murphy, and 4th round draft picks Mekhi Blackmon, Jay Ward and Jaquelin Roy. Needless to say, we may see another season of the offense making up for the lack of defensive production after a lack of impact free agents.
