Strengths: Slippery runner with great elusiveness. He has impressive stop/start ability, lateral quickness, and able to use the cut back option. His vision in the open field is one of his greatest strengths, were he can see multiple defenders and maneuver to set up blocks down field. Gray has proven to be a reliable receiver out of the backfield. Gray does well to balance his dynamic ability with being a disciplined runner. His ball security has been terrific over the last two seasons.
Weaknesses: Pass protection will need to be significantly improved to see the field in the pros. He has had periods of inconsistency and his power and contact balance is not always great. He does not have top end speed to break a big one and run away from defenders.
Summary: Eric Gray began his career at Tennessee before transferring to Oklahoma ahead of the 2021 season. Taking over the lead role with OU in 2022. He is a quality back that needs to be groomed into a complementary back at the next level. He will provide value to whatever team he goes to, with his rushing and receiving versatility. I think given the right opportunity he can prove to be a productive NFL back as well as fantasy player.
